Great Western Exploration scheduled to start EM survey for December quarter at Fairbairn Nickel Project, WA

Great Western Exploration (ASX:GTE) announces that it is scheduled to commence a helicopter-borne electromagnetic (EM) geophysical survey over its highly prospective Fairbairn Nickel Project in WA’s Yilgarn Craton. 

The EM survey is scheduled to commence during the December 2022 quarter and will be completed over identified magnetic highs and anomalous nickel results returned following a nickel exploration program conducted in March of this year.  

Results from the nickel exploration program returned grades of up to 1,000ppm Ni, with two legacy drillholes recording anomalous nickel assays within mafic-ultramafic units situated in a magnetic high and below shallow cover. 

The previously reported assays include:

  • Hole MO18: 12m @ 1,835ppm Ni from 22m, incl. a maximum assay of 2,130ppm Ni, and;
  • Hole MO17: 20m @ 1,214ppm Ni from 28m

The Fairbairn base metal project is located in the rapidly evolving Earaheedy Basin, near the northern boundary of the Yilgarn Craton about 900km northeast of the state capital city of Perth in Western Australia.

The project makes up a portion of Great Western’s very large 960km-square WA exploration portfolio and was established in the Yilgarn Craton region prior to the discovery at Julimar by Chalice Mining (ASX:CHN). However, only minor previous exploration has been completed on the project, which focused on diamond drilling exploration. 

The project is highly prospective for magmatic nickel-copper-platinum systems located on the boundary of the Yilgarn Craton, which shares geological similarities to the Julimar and Nova deposits. All associated tenements are 100% owned by Great Western. 

With the EM survey scheduled for the December quarter this year, Great Western announces that numerous field work programs across multiple projects are currently underway and are well funded with a tight capital structure, delivering leverage on exploration success.
