Great Western Exploration (ASX:GTE) has commenced a 3,000m air core drilling program at its Diorama Copper-Gold Target within the Yerrida North Project in Western Australia.
The program aims to test the copper anomalism and zones of gossanous outcrop at Diorama. The target is located approximately 70km from Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR)‘ DeGrussa Copper-Gold Deposit within the Yerrida Basin.
Diorama represents a DeGrussa-style copper-gold target initially defined as a large lag copper anomaly.
Field mapping has identified gossanous quartz from limited surface outcrop, with extents mapped in some areas greater than 100m.
The shallow cover across a large portion of the target potentially obscures copper mineralisation below surface.
The gossanous quartz potentially represents highly weathered sulphides, which may be significantly developed below surface and host copper-gold mineralisation.
The gossans were noted to be interbedded with siltstone and shale units.
Great Western believes Diorama represents a compelling Volcanic Hosted Massive Sulphide (VHMS) style mineralisation target, similar to the nearby DeGrussa Copper-Gold Deposit.
No drilling has previously been completed at this location.
The drilling program seeks to advance the target for future targeted drilling of discrete and obscured zones for copper-gold enrichment.
Great Western Exploration holds a 100% interest in the Yerrida North Project and maintains a portfolio of base metal and gold targets across Western Australia.
