Godolphin Resources (ASX:GRL) says talc removal could materially enhance concentrate grade and precious metals recovery at its Lewis Ponds Project in New South Wales.
A mineralogical assessment found talc accounts for approximately 19% of lead concentrate mass and over 90% of non-sulphide gangue.
Modelling shows the current lead concentrate grade of approximately 33% lead (Pb) could theoretically increase to more than 60% Pb through improved rejection of talc and iron sulphide dilution minerals.
Silver is predominantly hosted within sulphide minerals reporting to the lead concentrate, while copper occurs primarily as chalcopyrite. Liberation data indicates 82% of galena, 85% of copper (Cu) sulphides, and 65% of silver (Ag) minerals are in recoverable form.
“Removing talc ahead of the lead circuit has the potential to materially improve concentrate grade and support stronger lead recoveries,” Managing Director Jeneta Owens says.
“This also presents a clear opportunity to increase precious metals recovery.”
Talc is naturally hydrophobic, meaning it readily reports to flotation concentrates, diluting grade, and reducing circuit efficiency.
The findings could strengthen the existing Scoping Study results, which delivered a base case NPV of $481 million and 24% IRR at US$3,700 ($5,369.9) per ounce gold and US$55 per ounce silver.
Godolphin Resources will evaluate talc pre-flotation testwork and integrate results into flowsheet optimisation.
Lewis Ponds hosts a JORC 2012 mineral resource estimate of 17.52 million tonnes at 3.02 grams per tonne gold (Au) equivalent, containing 1.12g/t Au, 53.34g/t Ag, 2.06% zinc, 1.10% Pb, and 0.14% Cu.
The project is located 15km east of Orange within the Lachlan Fold Belt.
