Australian base and precious metals company Galena Mining (ASX:G1A) reports it has produced first concentrate at its Abra Base Metals Mine in Western Australia.
The company says a lead-silver concentrate was produced on 12 January as part of the commissioning process at Abra, which Galena considers a ‘globally significant’ lead-silver project.
Commenting on the first concentrate production, Galena Mining Managing Director Tony James says: “More great progress at Abra with first concentrate produced. Commissioning of the processing plant is progressing quickly and concentrate production shows initial process flow continuity.
“We will continue with the commissioning through January with the focus on achieving the plant’s processing design criteria and work towards first product shipment in Q1 2023”

The Abra Base Metals Project is a silver-lead project located in between the towns of Newman and Meekatharra in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

Galena completed a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), and a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) for the development of an underground mine and processing facility to produce a ‘high-value’, ‘high-grade’ lead-silver concentrate.
The company says a final investment decision to complete the project was made in June 2021, and construction is ongoing to reach first commercial production in Q1 2023.
Galena Mining is a base and precious metals explorer and developer that first listed on the ASX in September 2017. The company is focused on its assets in the Gascoyne region. These projects include the Abra Project, of which Galena holds a 60% interest, with the remaining 40% held by Japanese zinc manufacturer Toho Zinc (TYO:5707).
The company also wholly owns the nearby Jillawarra Project which covers 76km of strike extension directly to the west of Abra.
