Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) has started drilling at Greenbushes South Lithium Project in Western Australia, primarily focusing on E70/4790, located 3km south of the world renowned Greenbushes Lithium Mine.
Galan reports this maiden 2,500m drilling campaign will test the company’s targets discovered from soil sampling and ground geophysics. Galan’s team has distinguished various minerals associated with lithium-bearing pegmatites which are close to the surface.
The company finds these results very ‘encouraging’, particularly with the close proximity to the Greenbushes Mine, which is the world’s largest hard-rock lithium mine, and close to the Donny-Brook Bridgetown Shear Zone.
In March 2022, airborne geophysics were flown to acquire pegmatite targets for all of Galan’s tenements. Additionally, a pegmatite associated with spodumene bearing rocks was uncovered at E70/4790 in August 2022. Further geological mapping, soil sampling, and geophysical are being applied to determine drill targets within E70/4790. Galan states these ground-based methods are also being applied to the company’s other granted tenements in the region.

The Greenbushes South Lithium Project covers an area of about 315km-square and is located 250km south of Perth in Western Australia. These tenements are situated along the trace of the geologic structure, intersecting the Donny-brook Bridgetown Shear Zone which hosts the lithium bearing pegmatites discovered at the Greenbushes Mine.
Galan Lithium owns several Tier 1 lithium brine projects located on the world-class Hombre Muerto salar in Argentina, within South America’s ‘lithium triangle’. The Hombre Muerto salar is proven to host lithium brine deposition of the ‘highest grade’ and lowest impurity levels within Argentina. It is home to the established El Fenix lithium operation (Livent Corporation) and the Sal de Vida (Allkem) and Sal de Oro (POSCO) lithium projects.
