Viking Mines (ASX:VKA) has reported strong correlations with known mineralisation areas in its expanded ground gravity geophysical survey at the Linka Project in Nevada, US, producing new targets for follow-up drill testing.
The objective of the survey was to expand beyond the known surface mineralisation, identifying subsurface targets beneath young cover. The survey comprised 1.2km2 of ground gravity surveying, 5.9km2 of ground magnetics, and four test lines of a gradient array induced polarisation (GAIP) trial.
A number of new high gravity anomalies have been identified, including concealed targets beneath the volcanic cover, which Viking notes will help de-risk the maiden drill program.
Managing Director Julian Woodcock says that the survey results provide “strong support” for Viking’s exploration strategy.
“We have resolved several gravity highs through volcanic cover at Linka Southwest which present compelling targets for our upcoming drill program,” Woodcock says.
“Many other anomalies have also been identified across the project area, which we will now incorporate into our geological model and target list for future testing.”
Viking is continuing to fast-track the Linka Project with a target to commence drilling in the June quarter.
Current activities include field assessment and ground-truthing of the broader targets to finalise drill positioning, sample collection from historical tailings and stockpiles for metallurgical test work and resource estimation, and completion of the 3D geological model for drill planning and a JORC (2012) exploration target.
Finally, Viking is finalising its Notice of Intent with the Bureau of Land Management as it prepares for the maiden drill program, as well as the completion of the company’s listing to the US OTC market.
