The Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action of Victoria has granted gold exploration company First Au (ASX:FAU) an exploration licence, increasing its footprint in the Snowstorm area of Victoria.
The new lease, which is valid for five years, covers over 12 historical workings and the historical King Cassilis Mine.
The King Cassilis Mine was operating in the late 19th century, during the peak of the Victorian gold booms.
According to historic records, the King Cassilis Mine produced over 3,000 ounces of gold at 14.4 grams per tonne gold.
First Au Director and Geologist Xavier Braud says the presence of the historical mine is a confirmation of past gold production in the area.
“We are looking forward to applying modern exploration techniques to unlock the next chapter in the history of this prolific gold field.”
First Au is a gold-focused explorer with assets in Victoria and Western Australia. The company’s assets include the Victorian Gold and Gimlet Gold projects.
