Everest Metals (ASX:EMC) has secured approval for its application to the US Defence Industrial Base Consortium (DIBC), which supports research, development, and prototyping to advance technologies critical to national defence.
The DIBC membership enables collaboration with the US Department of Defence, which potentially unlocks non-dilutie funding and strategic partnerships for the Mt Edon Rubidium Project in Western Australia.
Everest, which has a market capitalisation of $33.61 million, says this approval marks a milestone for Mt Edo, positioning the company to pioneer the first Australian rubidium industry and secure strategic partnerships with the US Government.
The company aims to scale up Mt Edon to a commercial pilot plant during 2026.
Rubidium is classified as a critical mineral by the US, due to the mineral being essential for defence, aerospace, medical, and high-tech industrial applications.
In the defence and military sector, rubidium is used in night vision imaging, special glass, radiation detectors, photoelectric tubes, radio electronic tubes, and military infrared signal systems.
According to the US Geological Survey, global rubidium resources were relatively scarce, with more resources containing limited content in 2024. The rubidium market is forecast to grow from US$4.46 billion in 2023 to US$7.2 billion by 2032.
