The Government of Western Australia has announced a civil works contract worth almost $31 million to start the construction of stage one at Yilkari Industrial Park, in a major boost to the Goldfields economy.
Yilkari Industrial Park (formerly known as Anzac Drive West) will eventually be a 138-hectare general industrial estate that will create more than 850 permanent jobs and inject more than $300 million into the Kalgoorlie-Boulder economy annually.
Civil and electrical construction business Ertech, which was awarded the civil works contract, is expected to start the construction of stage one in February.
It will eventually deliver 26 general industrial lots ranging from 2,500m2 metres to 2 hectares. The lots will be serviced with solid infrastructure such as power, water, NBN, and a new intersection with Anzac Drive to cater for heavy RAV10 vehicles.
Over the next decade, Yilkari is expected to deliver more than 70 general industrial lots, attracting more than $200 million in private sector investment and creating more than 700 construction jobs.
Lands Minister John Carey says by creating hundreds of new jobs and enabling businesses to expand or establish operations in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the state government is positioning the region as a prime destination for investment and economic growth.
“The Goldfields has long been a powerhouse of Western Australia’s resources sector, and this development will ensure that both new and existing businesses can capitalise on the growing demand for gold, rare earths, and lithium processing,” Carey says.
“This $30.8 million investment will provide the necessary utilities, transportation links and land availability – driving economic diversification and job opportunities for the Goldfields.”
Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent is encouraging companies operating in the resources sector to “take advantage of this prime industrial estate” and contribute to the continued growth and success of Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a mining and processing hub.
