Equinox expands Brazilian critical minerals presence

Equinox Resources (ASX:EQN) has further expanded its critical minerals portfolio, via applying for a new package of ‘highly prospective’ niobium exploration tenements in Brazil.

The $25.29 million market capitalisation company submitted strategic pegging applications for 600km-square of mining rights — forming the newly defined Canastra Project, which lies in the niobium-rich Alto Paranaiba Igneous Province in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zac Komur says this initiative represents a ‘important’ step towards solidifying the company’s position in the burgeoning global commodity sector, which is poised for ‘substantial’ growth.

“Positioned within Brazil, we gain a competitive edge in a jurisdiction well-known for its cost-efficiency. The region’s abundant resources and deep pool of skills and talent, along with its superior infrastructure and green energy grid, perfectly align with our commitment to environmentally responsible growth.

The Canastra Project is a strategic and cost-effective enhancement of our portfolio, complementing our existing rare earth exploration projects at Campo Grande and Mata da Corda.

As the global economy shifts towards advanced technologies, the demand for niobium will surge, making this a very attractive commodity to add to our portfolio mix.”

Further, Komur says that the company will begin its maiden exploration programs later this year at Canastra aimed to unlock the potential of the vast and ‘highly prospective’ tenure.

Upon today’s (12 February) announcement, Equinox’s share price had increased 10.63% to $0.260 as of 3pm AEDT.

The staking of the Canastra project expands the total Brazilian exploration footprint to 3,230km-square.

Equinox Resources is a mineral explorer and developer focused on iron ore, lithium, and other future facing commodities.

As of 31 December 2023, the company had 3.175 million cash and cash equivalents at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
