A mine worker died on 25 January 2026 at Serabi Gold’s (AIM:SRB) Coringa underground operation in Brazil, following an accident occurring relating to mining activity at a production face.
The company notified relevant authorities and are providing assistance for the enquiries into the incident. The investigation currently remains ongoing.
Production in the area of the incident is expected to resume within a few days once authorities have completed their enquiries. Serabi Gold says mining operations are otherwise unaffected.
The Coringa Gold Project is located 200km south of Palito and 70km southeast of the city of Novo Progresso in the State of Pará.
At least 14 mine workers have reportedly died this year, with incidents occurring in Australia, Canada, Sudan and Brazil. At the end of last week (24 January), six miners were killed and 12 injured following a gold mine collapsing in South Kordofan.
As previously reported, two mine workers in Queensland died in separate incidents in the first few days of 2026.
According to SafeWork Australia, Queensland had the highest number of workplace deaths in 2024 out of all Australian states, accounting for 53 deaths out of 188.
In 2025, six out of 167 workplace deaths were related to the mining sector – a slight decrease from 2024 which recorded 11 deaths.
