D3 Energy (ASX:D3E) has begun production testing at Nooitgedacht Major, which is a legacy gold exploration borehole in the northern area of ER315 in Free State (formerly known as the Orange Free State) of South Africa.
Nooitgedacht Major was originally drilled in 1990 and has been flowing gas since that time.
The production testing will assist D3 Energy to assess the prospectivity of the northern area of ER315 and thereby increase the company’s knowledge of the gas migration processes across the broader permit area. It will also assist the company to potentially delineate another production fairway in the process.
This news comes after the company extended a multi-borehole testing program at Bloemskraal during 2024. Nooitgedacht Major is located 43km north of the Bloemskraal area and is positioned along the Homestead Fault that traverses through the northern section of ER315.
The flow testing at Nooitgedacht Major is expected to last for around two weeks.
D3 Energy notes that no interference testing will be conducted as there are no nearby offset wells to monitor the pressure.
However, the company plans to drill a new weel Erfenis 1 nearby Nooitgedacht Major to allow interference testing in the future.
The company’s flagship ER315 project is located in the Free State Province of South Africa, spanning nearly 295,000 acres.
