Lithium development company Critical Resources (ASX:CRR) has returned further ‘exceptional’ spodumene-bearing pegmatite intercepts from drilling at its Mavis Lake Lithium Project in Ontario, Canada.
The results, generated by step-out drilling, demonstrate the existence of a new mineralised zone located about 300m south of the project’s Main Zone.
Critical Resources notes the successful drilling of the south zone highlights the continued potential for scale and growth at Mavis Lake with multiple, mapped, spodumene-bearing outcrops yet to be drill tested. Results also extend the known mineralisation of the Main Zone down dip which remains open at depth.

Adding on, the company says logging of the core from the South Zone has identified very-high concentrations of spodumene up to 45% over lengths greater than 6m.
Key intercepts from drilling include drillhole SZ23-002 with 6.8m of spodumene-bearing pegmatite from 72.4m downhole; hole SZ23-004 with 9.45m of spodumene-bearing pegmatite from 111.85m downhole; and hole SZ23-010 with 6.45m of spodumene-bearing pegmatite from 208.05m.
Drilling was recommenced in early January 2023 with two drill rigs focusing on different areas of Mavis Lake and continues to expand the known area of lithium mineralisation at the project.
Speaking on the results, Critical Resources Managing Director Alex Cheeseman says: “These are further great results from Mavis Lake, identifying a new mineralisation zone has the ability to significantly increase the scale potential of the project, and is extremely encouraging.
These results reinforce the company’s commitment to conduct comprehensive, large-scale drilling programs throughout 2022 and continuing in 2023.
We look forward to further develop our understanding of the mineralisation at Mavis Lake and adding these results to our pending Mineral Resource Estimate.”
The company also notes drilling highlights from the Main Zone include drillhole MF23-190 with 14.7m of spodumene-bearing pegmatite from 167.6m downhole, and 20.05m of spodumene-bearing pegmatite from 251.5m downhole.
In addition, Critical Resources reports all drill results will be incorporated into its planned maiden JORC 2012 compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) which is currently being developed.
With results from drilling now received, Critical Resources announces it is still continuing with drilling at Mavis Lake, and has also commenced baseline technical and environmental studies and assessments in order to support the preparation of a scoping study for the project.
Assays from over 50 individual drillholes are yet to be received.
