Corazon readies shallow gold at Feather Cap

Corazon Mining (ASX:CZN) has announced its preparations for maiden drilling at the Wembley gold prospect within its Feather Cap Gold Project in Western Australia.

The approximately 2,000m, 20-hole reverse circulation program will test whether shallow gold mineralisation extends beneath and along strike from the historic Wembley workings.

Drilling contractor JBell Drilling is scheduled to mobilise on 14 August, with the campaign expected to finish by the end of the month. Initial assays are anticipated in October.

Historical drilling returned gold from as shallow as 6m, including 7m @ 6.21 grams per tonne gold (Au) from 6m, 2m @ 6.33g/t Au from 68m, and 6m @ 1.60g/t Au from 17m.

All intervals are reported as downhole widths, with true widths unknown.

The program will include holes beneath the former mine and step-outs of up to approximately 250m along strike to assess the continuity and geometry of the mineralisation.

A second group of holes will test an interpreted regional structure offset from the main line of workings. Historical drilling along this corridor returned 8m @ 1.14g/t Au from 17m.

Managing Director Simon Coyle says the program will test whether the historical ‘high-grade’ intersections are isolated zones or part of a larger system.

“We are not drilling simply to confirm what is already known. We are drilling to find out how big this is, and whether those high-grade hits are isolated pods or the surface expression of a much larger, structurally controlled system,” Coyle says.

The former Wembley mine reportedly produced approximately 1,050 ounces of gold from 1,510 tonnes between 1926 and 1935. Corazon says these records have not been independently verified and do not indicate the grades likely to be returned by the upcoming drilling.

Feather Cap covers approximately 154km² in the Bryah-Padbury Basin, near Westgold Resources’ (ASX:WGX) Fortnum operations and adjacent to Great Boulder Resources’ (ASX:GBR) Durack gold deposit.

The company says results will guide potential follow-up drilling as Corazon works towards defining an exploration target and, ultimately, a maiden mineral resource estimate at Wembley.

Corazon Mining is a Western Australian gold explorer and developer with the Feather Cap, Chalice, and Two Pools projects. Its portfolio also includes the Lynn Lake Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Sulphide Project in Manitoba, Canada.
