A delegation of Canadian exporters in February 2025 flew to Australia to take part in a Team Canada Trade Mission to support Canadian exporters and innovators in the Australian market.
The Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce (CACC) says more than 220 Canadian exporters representing 140 organisations visited Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, marking the largest ever trade mission in Australia.
Exporters showcased their expertise in a variety of industries, including clean technologies and clean energy; mining equipment technology and services; agri-food and agricultural technologies; and digital infrastructure and smart cities.
According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), in November 2024, the increase in Canada’s year-by-year exports to Australia was explained primarily by an increase in product exports in sulphur (393%), harvesting machinery (415%), and air pumps (471%).
The OEC reports that in November 2024, Canada exported C$245 million and imported C$260 million from Australia, resulting in a negative trade balance of C$15.7 million.

Between November 2023 and November 2024 the exports of Canada increased by 22.1% to C$245 million, while imports decreased by 1.06% to C$260 million.
In 2023, Canada exported $2.56 billion to Australia with the main products being gold, sulphur, and potassic fertilisers. Over the five years to the end of 2023, the exports of Canada to Australia have increased at an annualised rate of 8.21%, from $1.73 billion in 2018 to $2.56 billion in 2023.
In 2023, Australia reciprocated $2.35 billion in exports to Canada. The main products were aluminium oxide and radioactive chemicals. In the five years to 2023, the exports of Australia to Canada increased at an annualised rate of 7.31%, from $1.65 billion in 2018 to $2.35 billion in 2023.
Currently, Canada is on track to exceed its target of increasing non-US exports by 50%. As Canada and Australia share the same values for rules-based trade and sustainable growth, the two countries make ideal trading partners, according to the CACC.
The February trade mission was hosted by Canadian Minister of International Trade Mary Ng.
The Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, volunteer based organisation that aims to bring businesses together to facilitate a strong environment for economic trade and investment between Canada and Australia.
