Canaccord acquires Wilsons Advisory

Canaccord Genuity’s (TSX:CF) Australian operations’ Canaccord Financial Group has signed to acquire a whole interest in Wilsons Advisory to increase the company’s scale of wealth management activities.

Still awaiting regulatory approval and closing conditions, this transaction is expected to be complete in H2 2025.

The acquisition brings a joint value of around $41.8 billion in assets, $17 billion of which are fee-generating client assets which Canaccord expects to grow.

CEO Marcus Freeman explains that this acquisition unites the companies complementary strengths to enhance its value proposition and product suite.

“Our acquisition of Wilsons positions Canaccord Genuity Australia as one of the leading integrated wealth management and capital markets firms in Australia, differentiated by scale, deep local expertise, and global reach, and we look forward to bringing our teams together,” Freeman says.

Australian financial services firm Wilsons Advisory with more than 125 experience across private wealth management, corporate finance, and institutional equities.

The financial year ending 30 June 2025 allocated Wilsons a net revenue of $81 million, with an additional $16.7 billion worth in assets under advice. From these accumulated assets, $7.1 billion are fee-based.

Wilsons CEO Brad Gale says this decision was a joint effort between the two companies that was driven by a shared strategic alignment and vision for long-term growth.

“By combining our strengths, we are building a powerful Australian wealth management and capital markets business with greater scale, broader capabilities, and a stronger platform to support our clients while creating more opportunities for our people,” Gale adds.

The unification of these firms intends to provide emerging and established clients with comprehensive corporate financing and advisory services.

Canaccord works very closely with mining companies, actively providing services for companies focused on base, precious, and speciality metals, coal and met coal, iron ore, and uranium, as well as mining services companies.
