Environmental technology company Calix (ASX:CXL) is resuming construction at the Mid-Stream Demonstration Plant Project, which was developed in a joint venture with Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS).
This decision comes after the Western Australian Government awarded the project a $15 million grant funding package.
Calix intends to use the funds to reduce the construction cost share of the joint venture parties.
The Mid-Stream Project aims to complete construction and begin commissioning in the December quarter of 2025 and remains on budget. The project’s process is designed to create and capture more value from Australian mineral resources through cost-effective mineral processing at the mine site.

The Mid-Stream Project aims to construct and operate a demonstration-scale electric spodumene calciner at Pilbara Minerals’ Pilgangoora lithium operation in Western Australia.
Electric calcination has the potential to decarbonise one of the most carbon-intensive processes in the battery materials supply chain and deliver a lithium-enriched mid-stream product that reduces the transport of waste, increases utilisation of the mineral resource, and helps unlock logistically challenging ore deposits.
