Blende Silver (TSX-V:BAG) has appointed Andrew Rees as President and CEO to lead development of its namesake silver-zinc-lead project in Yukon, Canada.
Rees brings resource sector experience, having previously served as Director of Barkerville Gold Mines where he helped advance the Cariboo Gold Project through to production at the Bonanza Ledge Mine.
The company’s Blende Project, located 63km northeast of Keno Hill, represents one of the largest undeveloped carbonate-hosted silver-zinc-lead deposits in Western Canada. The 5,345-hectare property lies within the historic Keno Hill silver district, currently being advanced by Hecla Mining Company.
Rees, who currently serves as Lead Director of Doubleview Gold Corp. (TSX-V:DBG), succeeds Tom Kennedy who will remain on Blende Silver’s board of directors.
“The Blende Project represents a significant undeveloped silver rich polymetallic deposit in Canada and I look forward to working closely with our board and stakeholders to advance the project and build value for shareholders,” Rees says.
The company notes that over C$9.2 million ($9.61 million) in past exploration has been completed at the project, including 25,195m of drilling across 132 holes, with C$5.2 million invested by Blende Silver directly.
The project is situated within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, with whom the company plans to maintain engagement as development progresses.
The winter road accessible property also lies in proximity to Hecla Mining’s Rackla exploration project in eastern Yukon.
