Bastion Minerals (ASX:BMO) has launched a soil sampling program, with contractor XM Logistics, at its Split Rock Dam Project in Western Australia.
XM Logistics is collecting samples onsite at 35m centres, on west to east sample lines. This is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete.
The samples will be analysed for lithium, tantalum, and rare earths. Results are anticipated to be returned a further 4 weeks thereafter.
Bastion says depending on the results, the soil sampling grid could expand to cover a ‘larger’ area of the property.
Executive Chairman Ross Landles says Split Rock Dam was previously explored for gold and base metals, but the previous sample analyses did not include lithium or rare earths.
“The current soil sampling is focused around gabbro and dolerite horizons within the greenstone belt, which trend north from a post-tectonic granite mapped by the Western Australia geological survey.
This is considered to be a highly prospective location for pegmatite intrusion and mineralisation. The third party Gila pegmatite occurrence is located immediately north of E16/207, where the gabbro and dolerite units extend out of the project.
This raises the exciting potential that pegmatite mineralisation could be present in similar units within the Split Rock project tenement.”
Bastion Minerals is an early-stage explorer focused on discovering copper, gold, and green metals. The Split Rock Dam project sits in the Mt Ida region and covers a 38.54km-square area.
As of 31 December 2023, the company had $1.032 million cash and cash equivalents at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
