Barton Gold returns average ‘indicative’ grades of 3,000g/t in material from Central Gawler Mill, South Australia

Australian explorer Barton Gold (ASX:BGD) has returned average grades of around 3,000 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from the first 3.8 tonnes of material recovered from its Central Gawler Mill in South Australia.

However, Barton says these figures are indicative only, noting final recoveries may vary significantly based on sampling, metallurgy, and other factors. Additionally, the company reports the recovered materials are ‘highly variable’ in nature and states these results do not forecast results for the balance of gold-bearing materials still in preparation for processing.

In December 2022, the company completed a preliminary review of the Central Gawler Mill. During this review, the gold room and gravity circuit were disassembled, cleaned, and placed in secure storage, with ball mills, floors, and sumps stripped. Barton estimates over 10 tonnes of gold-bearing material were recovered in this process.

Assays for the first 3.8 dry tonnes of materials have returned an average grade of around 3,000g/t Au for a contained metal value of around 375 ounces of gold, worth about $1.1 million at current gold prices.

Commenting on the assays, Barton Gold Managing Director Alex Scanlon says: “One of Barton’s unique advantages is the ability to monetise a large asset portfolio, many of which are surplus to future requirements, to generate non-dilutive cash totalling more than $5.2 million (net) since our June 2021 IPO (initial public offering).

“The Central Gawler Mill … is also yielding considerable near-term value for Barton as we advance our regional exploration and development initiatives”

The Central Gawler Mill provides significant leverage for regional development of gold mineralisation and is also yielding considerable near-term value for Barton as we advance our regional exploration and development initiatives. We look forward to sharing assay results for the balance of recovered materials as they arrive.”

Barton Gold is an ASX-listed gold explorer with a total mineral resource endowment of 40.6 million tonnes @ 1g/t Au for 1.3 million ounces across its Tarcoola Gold and Tunkillia Gold projects in South Australia. Additionally, the company also holds the Central Gawler Mill, which is the only regional gold mill in the central Gawler Craton of South Australia.
