Austral Resources (ASX:AR1) has appointed Matthew Beattie as chief financial officer, effective today.
Beattie joins Austral from Anson Resources (ASX:ASN), where he serves as CFO. He brings finance and commercial experience across the resources and energy sectors, including senior roles with Anson, Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), and EDL in Australia and the UK.
As part of the leadership transition, Angus Peterson will move from CFO to general manager for finance and treasury. Peterson has served as CFO since 2024 and has been with the company since 2021.
Beattie will lead Austral’s corporate finance function and work closely with the board and executive leadership team as the company advances its operations and growth plans.
Chairman David Newling says the appointment strengthens Austral’s internal financial capabilities.
“We are pleased to welcome Matt to Austral. He brings significant relevant financial and commercial experience and will be a valuable addition to our leadership team,” Newling notes.
“Angus has made — and will continue to make — significant contributions to Austral as he transitions into his new role. Strengthening our internal financial capabilities is a key aspect to continue with our plans to build Australia’s next mid-tier copper powerhouse.”
Peterson will continue to provide senior leadership with a focus on treasury and commercial finance.
Austral operates as a copper cathode producer in the Mt Isa region, Queensland. The company’s Mt Kelly plant has a nameplate capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum of copper cathode.
Austral Resources recently acquired the Rocklands Facility, enabling dual processing capabilities for copper sulphides and oxides, as well as increased gold exposure.
