Exploration company AuKing Mining (ASX:AKN) has secured a new prospecting licence at its Itigi Uranium Project in central Tanzania.
The company says the new licence comes as it gears up to begin a proposed 2,000m aircore and auger drilling program in the project area. This program is anticipated to be completed over a 2-3 month period.
Commenting on the proposed exploration program, AuKing Mining Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Williams says: “Our exploration team recently acquired a substantial amount of historical data from earlier activities at Itigi — none of which has been made publicly available.

The overall radiometric anomaly at Itigi is a substantial 40km by 10km, and historical exploration included more than 400 small pits that were identified as containing uranium mineralisation. It is these pits that provide AuKing with an immediate guide for the proposed drilling program.
We will also carry out some preliminary XRF measurements on these pits and use that as the basis for assessing samples to be sent for assay.”
AuKing has decided to do a combination of aircore and auger drilling due to the closeness to the surface of the mineralisation.
The company says the budgeted expenditure for this program is about $250,000.
AuKing Mining holds 1 granted prospecting licence and 2 prospecting licences in applications within the Itigi region.
All of these licence areas are located across the radiometric anomaly in the area and provide an opportunity to ‘substantially’ increase the existing uranium resources already uncovered at the nearby Manyoni Project.
