ASX sees green shoots to end turbulent week

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has rounded out a volatile week in the positive, with the S&P/ASX200 advancing 95.70 points, or 1.3%, to 7,777.70 on Friday (9 August).

The index rose above its 125-day moving average and all sectors ended the week in the green.

The information technology sector witnessed the biggest movement with a 3.2% gain. Materials closed up 1.9% and energy was up 1.8%.

The top movers featured American location-based service provider Life360 (ASX:360) which advanced 17.6%, News Corp (ASX:NWS) which gained 7.6%, and digital real estate advertising company REA Group (ASX:REA) which moved up 6.7%.

News Corp says it is considering the sale of Foxtel after receiving third party interest in the Australian pay television provider.

Those not ending the day in positive territory include Neuren Pharmaceuticals (ASX:NEU) which slipped 5.4%, online gaming content provider Light and Wonder which closed down 3.1% and QBE Insurance (ASX:QBE) with a 1.7% drop.

Following a choppy trading week fuelled by fears of a looming US recession the index has wiped off 2.01% for the last five days, and sits 4.48% below its 52-week high.
