ASX rises but miners lead declines

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is up by just 6.9 points this morning (6 June). Marked at 8,545.80 total points, the materials sector is leading the charge despite also flocking the top 20 declines as of 11am (AEST).

The S&P/ASX200 has seen a steady climb of 107.2 points with a 1.27% increase across all sectors over the past week, with materials averaging a weekly 1.12% increase.

Of the 11 sectors listed on the ASX, 10 are indexing higher for the week, though yesterday’s materials highs have flipped.

Yesterday’s top performers are on the decline, with yesterday’s top performer Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN) dropping 1.25% to $22.9.

Lynas Rare Earths (ASX:LYC) is down 1.89% to $9.08, compared to its top position from a rise of 7.05% yesterday at 11.30am, as reported by Mining.com.au.

Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS) scrapes close to the bottom, down 2.59% at $1.32.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market. The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
