The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is 0.31% lower today (8 September), losing 27.90 points to a total of 8,843.30 points as at 10.20am AEST.
The index has lost 1.45% over the past five days and is sitting just 2.33% under its 52-week high.
All sectors are following the platform’s decline this morning, with the materials sector dropping by 0.73%.
Perseus Mining (ASX:PRU) is the only mining company making the top five gains list, following a 2.82% increase to its share price, now at $4.37 per share.
Asian markets are expected to open lower this morning in line with the ASX.
The Dow Jones fell 0.5% to finish the last trading week down 220 points to close at 45,401 points.
Earlier, markets in Europe had a weaker session as London’s FTSE fell and Germany’s DAX declined.
The Australian dollar is buying at US$0.65.
Gold is trading at US$3,590 ($5,480) per ounce with copper trading at US$4.49 per pound.
WTI Crude oil is selling for US$62.17 per barrel while Brent oil is higher at US$65.87 per barrel.
Iron ore is valued at US$104.49.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.
It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
