ASX lower after weekly increase

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has lost 14.3 points today (20 February) as of 1.30pm AEDT, amid a 1.73% increase over the last five trading sessions.

The bourse is 0.51% of its 52-week high, starting the week with 8,983 points on Monday 16 February and heading towards the week close at 9,074 points on 20 February.

The materials sector has seen a 0.90% increase for the week, with the energy industry up 4.08%.

Resources companies performing significantly higher today includes Perseus Mining (ASX:PRU), which has increased 5.3% to trade at $5.96 per share.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.

The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation. It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
