ASX falls at the open, taking cue from Wall Street

The ASX is set to open 0.4% lower at the open in Sydney as US President, Donald Trump completes the final list of tariffs for countries exporting goods into the United States.

Resources companies in focus this morning include Antipa Minerals (ASX:AZY) which have positively reported on the potential of the group’s Minyari project in Western Australia.

PLS (ASX:PLS) and Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN) are engaged in a dispute with the Western Australian government over the claim that the country’s biggest port operator, Pilbara Ports Authority has failed to construct the necessary infrastructure for the country’s critical mineral sector according to reporting by The Australian.

The Australian dollar is firm against the major currencies and is buying 64.31 US cents, retracing gains made in July where the currency traded as high as 66 US cents.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.

The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
