Andromeda Metals (ASX:ADN) has initiated pilot-scale testwork at the HPA Project in South Australia, for the continuous production of commercial samples of high-purity alumina (HPA) using its proprietary process flowsheet.
The testwork will optimise the company’s innovative flowsheet to produce HPA in a continuous operation, moving beyond the batch processing previously used to produce HPA to 99.99% purity.
Using kaolin from the Great White Project as feedstock, the testwork is expected to produce 4N HPA, which is 99.99% purity, in a variety of forms. Andromeda will then use these as commercial samples for evaluation by potential customers.
The testwork will also inform future Feasibility studies, as well as produce amorphous silicate by-product material which will be further analysed and assessed for its potential value.
Andromeda, which has a market capitalisation of $76.33 million, says this demonstration of continuous production and the generation of commercial samples is the next step in the commercialisation of the project, following a Scoping Study.
The study identified the establishment of a continuous pilot plant as a key next phase.
Acting CEO Sarah Clarke says this will demonstrate the technology in a continuous process as well as generate commercial samples for engagement with potential customers.
“The production of HPA represents a high-value, strategic growth opportunity that complements our premium kaolin product offering from the Great White Project,” Clarke says.
Andromeda Metals is a South Australian mining company focused on the supply of industrial minerals.
