Altamira Gold (TSX-V:ALTA) has intersected gold mineralisation within a new porphyry body at the Tavares Norte target, located 5.5km east of the Maria Bonita gold deposit in Brazil.
The company says this finding indicates the presence of a second mineralised porphyry body, which is geologically and geochemically very similar to the porphyry body that hosts the Maria Bonita resource.
Two initial reconnaissance holes returned intervals at 18.6m @ 0.4 grams per tonne gold from 36m depth and 20m @ 0.3g/t gold from 133m within a broader zone of 161.7m of lower grade gold mineralisation.
Altamira Gold plans to conduct further drilling targeting the area to the east of the second drillhole, where a gold-in-soil anomaly is increasing in strength.
CEO Mike Bennett says the similarities to the Maria Bonita porphyry, coupled with the presence of strong alteration and sulphide mineralisation, confirms the model for the prospectivity of the east-west corridor extending through Maria Bonita.
“The Maria Bonita gold porphyry deposit is not unique within the Cajueiro district and we intend to focus additional drilling at Tavares Norte to better define the size of the porphyry body now identified there,” Bennett says.
“Concurrently, ongoing drilling at Maria Bonita continues to intersect mineralised porphyry adjacent to and below the previously estimated mineral resource.”
Maria Bonita’s resource contains 24.19 million tonnes @ 0.49g/t gold in the indicated category and 25.64 million tonnes @ 0.44g/t gold in the inferred category.
Altamira Gold is an explorer and developer focused on gold within western central Brazil.
