Altair Minerals (ASX:ALR) has commenced its inaugural 30,000m drilling program at the Greater Oko Project in Guyana.
The 12-month campaign comprises 15,000m of diamond drilling and 15,000m of rotary air blast (RAB) drilling, with a minimum of 10,000m allocated to the South Oko (SOKO) prospect for each drilling method.
The company has also uncovered previously unreported historic trenching results at the North Peters prospect, including 16.5m at 9.68 grams per tonne gold with mineralisation open on both ends.
Other significant trench results include 39m at 3.78g/t gold, including 16.5m at 5.3g/t gold, and 18m at 5.63g/t gold with mineralisation open on both ends.
Chief Executive Officer Faheem Ahmed says the program marks a significant step-change in exploration activities at one of Guyana’s most prospective gold districts.
“This program marks the commencement of a significant step-change in our exploration activities, with a continuous 12-month drilling program, consisting of at least 30,000m into the ground,” Ahmed says.
The Greater Oko Project spans 590km2, representing the largest contiguous gold exploration landholding in Guyana’s history. The company controls approximately 15km strike length of the Oko Shear Zone, which has already delivered more than nine million ounces of gold across neighbouring projects.
Recent corporate activity in the district includes GMining Ventures’ US$3 billion takeover proposal for G2 Goldfields’ adjoining Oko-Ghanie Project, as previously reported, following the US$1 billion acquisition of Reunion Gold’s Oko West Project in 2024.
RAB drilling has commenced at North Peters, focusing on step-out targets while optimising drill configuration before moving to SOKO. Diamond drilling will begin within three weeks following completion of the core shed at North Peters.
At South Oko, geochemical work has defined two large-scale targets which will be subject to RAB drilling within three weeks. The maiden drilling will consist of RAB drill lines to depths of 50-75m downhole, covering the western half of the W1 target and extending approximately 300m westwards beyond the current geochemical anomaly.
The company has built an exploration team of approximately 40 personnel working simultaneously across Greater Oko, completing over 900 soil samples, 30 grab samples, 1.9km of trenching, and more than 70 auger holes.
Altair expects to have three separate drill programs operating simultaneously across SOKO and North Peters by the end of April, including RAB, diamond, and auger drilling. Trenching and soil sampling will continue alongside planned aeromagnetics and LiDAR surveys.
The company acquired the Greater Oko Project six months ago and has since formed a Guyana leadership team, strengthened its Australian board, and constructed two separate exploration camps.
Altair Minerals is an Australian company focused on unlocking the mineral potential of Guyana through the Greater Oko Project.
