Alpha HPA cements dominance as plant’s stage two starts

Construction has started in Gladstone on Alpha HPA’s (ASX:A4N) high-purity alumina plant, which is touted as the largest single-site ultra-high purity aluminium materials refinery in the world.

The $975.73 market capitalisation company is today (3 September 2024) launching the start of stage two construction.

Alpha has secured a $400 million Australian Government debt facility and raised $180 million in equity to fund the development.

Managing Director Rimas Kairaitis says Alpha HPA’s 10-hectare, “state-of-the-art” facility will leverage the established stage one operation, and the company’s “novel, and Australian owned and developed process IP”.

At full scale, the site will be capable of producing over 10,000 tonnes of high-purity aluminium products per year, creating 120 ongoing jobs on top of the 300 jobs during construction.

“Today marks a significant step forward for Alpha HPA, the Gladstone community and for high technology manufacturing in Australia,’’ Kairaitis says.

“The start of stage two construction at our Gladstone site not only underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence but also solidifies our position as a global leader in ultra-high-purity aluminium materials.”

Alpha HPA’s proprietary process technology offers an opportunity to manufacture a wide range of ultra-high purity aluminium material that are “cost competitive, low-carbon and which leverages off established industrial infrastructure in Gladstone”.

The process allows for the extraction and purification of aluminium from industrial feedstock, producing materials of exceptional purity for high-technology applications, including the semiconductor, lithium-ion battery, and LED lighting sectors.

With growing global demand for high purity aluminium products for application in LED lighting, synthetic sapphire, semiconductors, and lithium-ion battery industries, Alpha HPA plans on supplying the world’s most pure and sustainable ultra-high purity aluminium materials to market.

To achieve this, the company is commercialising its new, “smarter technology” using the most environmentally responsible and efficient methods globally, according to its website.
