AIC Mines (ASX:A1M) says a high potential incident took place on 18 May at the Eloise Copper Mine in northwest Queensland.
An underground loader was preparing a stope area for backfilling and drove beyond a safe operating area, which resulted in the loader losing control and becoming stuck.
The company says emergency responses were initiated and the loader operator was brought to safety. The loader operator did not sustain any injuries.
At this stage, AIC says the cause of the incident is unknown and investigations are continuing.
During the emergency response, mining and processing operations were suspended. In consultation with Resources Safety and Health Queensland, operations have restarted.
As this news service previously reported, Safe Work Australia’s latest preliminary data revealed that 29 workers had been killed as of 11 April 2024.
Since then, a further eight workers have died according to Safe Work Australia. As of 9 May 2024, 37 worker deaths have been recorded, with three of those in the mining industry.
