Western Yilgarn (ASX:WYX) has identified “high-grade” gallium-tellurium surface mineralisation at the Ida Holmes Junction project, located in Western Australia, noting additional potential for future exploration at the site.
Rock sampling programs E36/1020 and E36/1046 returned “high-grade” gallium values. Highlights include up to 153 parts per million gallium (205.66 ppm gallium oxide), 144.5ppm gallium (194.24 ppm gallium oxide), and 185.5ppm gallium (249.35 ppm gallium oxide).
Western Yilgarn non-executive director Pedro Kastellorizos says the results are a significant milestone, confirming potential for an emerging mineralised system.
“At Ida Holmes Junction, we have now delineated multiple zones of high-grade gallium mineralisation within exploration licences E36/1020 and E36/1046, located approximately 36 kilometres apart,” he says.
“The confirmation of such strong gallium tenor across this distance demonstrates that mineralisation is not isolated, but rather potentially part of a much larger, regionally extensive system.”
Western Yilgarn says its position within the critical minerals sector is strengthened due to gallium and tellurium being identified as critical for global supply chains.
As reported by Mining.com.au gallium is used for semiconductors and green technologies, which are essential in the move to renewable energy.
The company says the “high grades” of gallium and tellurium are interpreted as the result of the project being close to the Waroonga Shear Zone, acting as a conduit for mineralising fluids.
