Trek Metals (ASX:TKM) has begun its maiden drilling campaign at the Kuro manganese discovery, located in the Christmas Creek Project in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
The company is conducting reverse circulation drilling at the discovery to test below the manganese outcrop, following the drill rig’s arrival 15 June.
Initially, the drilling campaign will test multiple locations in and around the mineralisation, while also targeting key geophysical features.
Geophysical surveying is ongoing at the discovery, with Moombarriga Geoscience conducting induced polarisation surveys and Atlas Geophysics undertaking extensional ground gravity surveying.
As reported by Mining.com.au, gravity surveying conducted by Atlas Geophysics is co-funded through the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme.
Trek Metals CEO Derek Marshall describes the start of maiden drilling as a “hugely exciting milestone” for Trek and its shareholders.
“We now finally get to see if the extensive high-grade manganese mineralisation we have found at surface extends at depth, as indicated strongly by the geophysical data we have to hand,” Marshall says.
“Including the drilling and geophysics crews, we now have a big team of 22 personnel on site, with our camp a hive of activity.
“With our Chairman Andrew Reece and myself on site for the commencement of the crucial drilling phase, we are all extremely excited to see what the drill rig will deliver!”
Trek Metals is an exploration company focused on unlocking value in underexplored regions.
