Syrah Resources locks in AAM production start date

Syrah Resources (ASX:SYR) is anticipating the start of Anode Active Material (AAM) production at its 11.25 million tonne per annum AAM facility in Vidalia, Louisiana, US by the end of January 2024. 

The $354.84 million market capitalisation company says commissioning processes are ‘well advanced’ or complete across all parts of the facility, including key milling, purification, and furnaces process area and equipment. 

Syrah reports commissioning of the purification area, including the introduction of reagents into the circuit, has been delayed due to optimisation activities associated with the press filtration system and forecasted below freezing temperatures in the region. 

The company notes its team is now working to complete wet commissioning of the purification area ahead of the forecast weather events.

Syrah has been producing unpurified spherical graphite from the front-end milling area since October 2023 to build an inventory of precursor value-added material in preparation for the purification and furnace areas becoming operational. 

The company is a natural graphite and battery anode company supplying battery and industrial markets with ‘high quality’, environmentally differentiated, and customer qualified products.

The company’s flagship Balama Graphite Operation is situated in Mozambique while its Active Anode Material Facility sits in the US. 

As of 30 September 2023, Syrah Resources had $80.886 million cash and cash equivalents at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
