China Shenhua Energy (HKEX:1088) has announced its subsidiary Shengli Energy sold 3.03 million tonnes (Mt) of coal in August, its first monthly result above 3Mt.
The company says the figure represents a monthly ‘record’ for the operation. Railway shipments also reached 2.15Mt during August, while daily sales peaked at 121,400 tonnes.
Shengli attributes the increase to production planning during China’s peak summer energy-demand period and closer coordination between its mining, sales, and railway operations.
The company says it adjusted production schedules according to geological conditions, customer requirements, and available storage capacity. It also used separate storage silos and loading systems to manage coal quality and inventory.
Average coal production efficiency exceeded 2,400 tonnes per hour during the month, according to the company.
Shengli says it also monitored customer demand and adjusted railway loading arrangements as part of efforts to maintain deliveries. The company did not provide comparative monthly figures or disclose the financial effect of the higher sales.
The Shengli mining area produces lignite in China’s Inner Mongolia region.
China Shenhua Energy is an integrated energy producer operating coal mines, power plants, railways, ports, shipping assets, and coal-to-chemicals facilities. The group produced 332.1Mt and sold 430.9Mt of coal during 2025.
