SAGA backs Labrador’s growing clean energy, minerals role

SAGA Metals (TSX-V:SAGA) has welcomed a series of provincial and federal investment announcements that it believes will strengthen Labrador’s role in Canada‘s clean energy, defence, and critical minerals sectors.

Chief among them is a C$70 billion ($70.2 billion) package recently announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government to upgrade and expand Labrador’s clean power infrastructure.

The investment is expected to nearly triple the generating capacity of the Churchill Falls Generating Station to almost 14,000 megawatts, which the government says would be enough to power the equivalent of all homes in Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver combined.

The package will also support development of the Gull Island hydroelectric project on the lower Churchill River, considered one of the largest potential electricity projects in North America.

According to the federal government, the package represents the largest clean energy investment in North American history.

The initiative follows an earlier announcement of up to C$8 billion in long-term investment for 5 Wing Goose Bay, which is used by the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Described by the government as the largest defence investment in Newfoundland and Labrador’s history, the funding forms part of a broader C$32 billion program to strengthen Canada’s northern basing infrastructure.

SAGA says the scale of these commitments strengthens the investment case for Labrador “as a premier North American jurisdiction for clean power, responsible resource development, and secure critical mineral supply chains”.

“The direction of federal and provincial policy is clear: Canada intends to build the clean power and enabling infrastructure needed to unlock Labrador’s strategic resource potential,” SAGA CEO Mike Stier says.

‘Directly aligned’ portfolio

SAGA currently holds three projects in the province, each targeting different critical minerals.

The Radar Titanium-Vanadium-Iron Project covers 241.75km² and entirely encloses the Dykes River intrusive complex, which has been mapped across approximately 160km² at surface near Cartwright, Labrador.

Exploration at Radar has identified what SAGA describes as a large, mineralised layered mafic intrusion hosting a 29km² lopolith with relatively consistent grades of titanium, vanadium, and iron.

SAGA is advancing Radar towards a maiden mineral resource estimate after recently completing drilling at the Trapper Zone.

The company is also preparing to drill its Wolverine Heavy Rare Earth Element Project. The 230.5km² property hosts mineralised zones spanning approximately 26km², with previously reported drill assays of up to 2.03% total rare earth oxides.

Its Double Mer Uranium Project covers 256km², where radiometric surveys have identified an 18km east-west trend. According to SAGA, a confirmed 14km section has returned samples grading up to 0.428% uranium oxide.

“With Radar’s titanium, vanadium, and iron, Wolverine’s heavy rare earth elements, and Double Mer’s uranium potential, SAGA is directly aligned with the materials Canada and its allies increasingly require for energy, advanced manufacturing, defence, and supply chain security,” Stier adds.
