Kalamazoo Resources (ASX:KZR) wants to extract nearly double the amount of gold than previously targeted from its Ashburton Project, 35km southwest of Paraburdoo.
Kalamazoo initially targeted 524,000 ounces of gold in the project’s production profile. However, Executive Director Ben Ackerman told this news service on the sidelines of the Gold Coast Gold Conference last week that the company wants to lift the target by 90.8%.
“We hope to increase that with a target of 1 million ounces in the production profile for the Ashburton project,” he tells Mining.com.au.
“There are 1.1 million ounces currently sitting in the Mount Olympus resource.”
Ackerman reveals the 60% jump in gold spot prices over the past 12 months presents a strong case to expand the project area.
“It brings a lot of opportunity into the market, it has certainly created an opportunity for Kalamazoo to revisit our portfolio, and do the work that we need to do [on] advanced projects,” he says.
“We have got strong mineralisation forming at lower levels and still within the pit, which is outside [of] the resource. At West Olympus the drilling also supports a lower reduced level extension to the mineralisation.”
The latest results show intersected mineralisation exists at about 300 metres from the open pit.
“We can see that the target itself is open and it is alive … that is encouraging,” Ackerman says.
“As we go through with this next infill program, it will provide some growth in the resource and we can incorporate that with the mining studies – and lift that production profile.”
The Gold Coast Gold Conference was held over two days (25-26 March 2026) at the QT Hotel in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.
Mining.com.au was a media partner for the Gold Coast Gold Conference 2026 and attended both days.
Kalamazoo is a gold explorer with assets mostly in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
