Impact Minerals (ASX:IPT) has identified a conductive corridor at the Broken Hill Project in New South Wales through a single line magneto-telluric (MT) survey and regional MT data.
The corridor extends from a depth of 20km, which has potential to host a lithospheric-scale mineral system with three near-surface conductive zones identified.
Adjacent to the Redan fault, the conductive corridor suggests a crustal-scale structure and appears within a basement embayment at surface level, beneath the Willyama Supergroup. The Willyama Supergroup is host to Broken Hill orebody.
Impact is conducting a follow-up survey at the T3 zone to return final inversion results for drill targeting.
Managing Director Mike Jones says Broken Hill reflects the greater region’s potential to “generate giant ore systems”.
“The significance of these results lies not just in the individual conductors we have identified, but in what they may represent at a district scale,” Jones says.
“The MT data suggest the presence of a deep crustal corridor capable of focusing mineralising fluids into the upper crust, precisely the type of architecture associated with world-class mineral provinces.
“Our work indicates that these fundamental controls may extend into areas that have seen little modern exploration.
“Although further validation is needed, confirming shallow conductive targets above a deepseated corridor provides us with a strong geological framework.”
The company describes the Broken Hill Mine as “one of the world’s most significant mines” with more than 500 million tonnes of massive sulphide mineralisation.
