Copper exploration company Noronex (ASX:NRX) has been granted new exploration prospecting licences (EPLs) on the ‘highly prospective’ Kalahari Copper Belt in Namibia, increasing the total granted licence area by 138%.
The Kalahari Copper Belt licenced area, which runs from Central Namibia to northern Botswana has increased from 2,368km-square to 5,637km-square.
Noronex reports that the newly granted Humpback and Damara licence applications (EPLs 8655, 8656, 8664, 8671, and 8672) are 100% held through Noronex’s Namibian subsidiary and work has begun on orientation geochemistry and logistics for targeting drilling.
The Humpback and Damara EPLs were granted by the Ministry of Mines following the environmental clearance certificate report.
Additionally, the company reports that structural targets are defined at the Blowhole prospect along strike from the recent Ngami intercepts of Cobre Resources (ASX:CBE) in Botswana. Cobre has reported several ‘encouraging’ intersections, including 10.7m @ 1.3% copper (Cu), currently defined over a 4km strike length.

Historical drilling at the Humpback Project’s Fiesta Prospect by Cupric Canyon in 2014 reported up to 8m @ 2.5% in EISEB20 from 127m. A further 15 historical holes were drilled in other parts of the new application areas.
