Nordic Nickel granted 6 new exploration licences at the Pulju Project, Finland

ASX-listed exploration company Nordic Nickel (ASX:NNL) reports it has been granted 6 new exploration licences at its flagship Pulju Project located in Northern Finland.

The company says the granting of these 6 tenements at its nickel exploration project is not only an ‘exciting’ step forward for Nordic, but also reinforces the level of support to advance critical minerals projects in the region.

The granted exploration licences cover a total area of 78.18km-square and encompass areas of known nickel mineralisation based on the previously announced drilling database, ground mapping and initial geophysics, which Nordic states ‘reinforced’ the prospectivity and scale of the area.

Tenements acquired include Aihkiselkä, Kiimatievat, Rööni-Holtti, Mertavaara1, Saalamaselkä, and Kuanismaa, and all of these new exploration licences except one is located to the northeast of the Hotinvaara Prospect.

Nordic Nickel Managing Director Todd Ross says: “We know based on the results of the historical drilling, geophysics and ground mapping that the nickel potential of the Pulju Project is enormous, and we are excited to now have the ability to expand our exploration beyond Hotinvaara.

“Our maiden drilling campaign is on track to commence in January 2023 which will see us test the multiple electromagnetic (EM) conductors identified at Hotinvaara”

Our maiden drilling campaign is on track to commence in January 2023 which will see us test the multiple electromagnetic (EM) conductors identified at Hotinvaara.

With these additional exploration licences, our exploration area has expanded from 5km-square to 83km-square of highly prospective ground. This should see us operating in the region for a long time to come.”

Nordic reports its maiden drilling campaign at Pulju will begin in January 2023, and it will initially focus on the Hotinvaara Prospect targeting deeper, ‘high-grade’ massive sulphide nickel mineralisation.

The company states the granted exploration licences cover the areas of exploration potential along strike from Hotinvaara. It also notes it has now secured around 25km of strike length of prospective stratigraphy known to host shallow nickel sulphide mineralisation.

The Pulju Project is located in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt of Finland, 50km north of Kittilä. The Hotinvaara prospect has a mineral resource estimate (MRE) of 133.6 million tonnes @ 0.21% nickel (Ni) and 0.01% cobalt (Co).

Nordic Nickel is an ASX-listed nickel sulphide exploration company focused on the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt in Northern Finland which is considered one of the largest Paleoproterozoic greenstone belts globally.

This region is home to the 6.9 million ounce Kittilä Gold Mine operated by Agnico-Eagle, the 307 million tonne Kevitsa Nickel-Copper-Gold Mine owned by Boliden and the 44 million tonne Sakatti Copper-Nickel-PGE Project owned by Anglo American.

The company’s projects include the Maaninkijoki 3 Nickel Project and the Pulju Nickel Project.
