Middle Island Resources (ASX:MDI) has released initial assay results for phase two drilling at the Bobija Mine area in Serbia, noting that the results have significantly expanded the mineralised footprint beyond previously defined limits.
Assay results from nine reverse circulation (RC) drill holes have delivered wide, near-surface gold-silver-lead-zinc intersections, confirming an area of continuous mineralisation across the entire mine area at Bobija.
Key results include:
- 62m @ 0.72 grams per tonne gold, 27.4g/t silver, 0.11% copper, 0.60% lead, and 1.22% zinc from 16m, including 16m @ 1.27g/t gold, 65g/t silver, 0.24% copper, 1.62% lead, and 1.98% zinc from 16m
- 62m @ 0.77g/t gold, 18.4g/t silver, 0.10% copper, 0.49% lead, and 0.82% zinc from 2m, including 5m @ 4.66g/t gold, 77g/t silver, 0.02% copper, 1.59% lead, and 0.03% zinc from 3m
- 59m @ 0.47g/t gold, 13.7g/t silver, 0.17% copper, 0.32% lead, and 0.96% zinc from 0m, including 7m @ 1.04g/t gold, 23.9g/t silver, 0.05% copper, 0.42% lead, and 0.14% zinc from 0m
CEO Peter Spiers says that the phase two results are enhancing the case for Bobija as a “large and growing polymetallic discovery”.
“We are seeing broad intersections across multiple holes, extending the footprint of mineralisation over larger areas, while confirming that the system remains open in all directions,” Spiers says.
“Particularly encouraging is the consistency of the results. Every hole reported to date has intersected substantial mineralisation, including in areas previously considered barren. This strongly supports our view that Bobija hosts a large, laterally extensive mineralised system.
“The growing gold and silver component is another exciting aspect of the project. Historically, exploration focused primarily on lead, zinc, and barite; however, our drilling is consistently demonstrating significant precious metal values associated with the broader mineralised system, reporting significant intersections, including 62m @ 0.72g/t gold and 27.4g/t silver, alongside copper, lead, and zinc, from only 16m down-hole depth in drill hole BMLRC012.”
Phase two drilling
The phase two drill program comprised 17 RC holes across 1,363m, with an average depth of 80m per hole, and was completed in a previously interpreted barren area between the West, North, and Central sulphide-barite mineralised areas.
Middle Island notes that the results received to date support the company’s interpretation of the mineralisation extending across the entire historic mine site over an area of around 300m x 300m.
Results are currently pending for the remaining eight RC holes. The company is also proposing additional drilling for the Bobija Mine area to test the extent and continuity across the full interpreted footprint.
Soil sampling is also ongoing in the Tisovik area, around 6km northeast of Bobija, where a silver-lead-zinc-antimony anomalism was recently announced.
Middle Island Resources is focused on a recently acquired portfolio of exploration projects in the Western Tethyan Mineral Province of Serbia.
