Middle Island Resources (ASX:MDI) has defined large-scale copper targets at its Priboj Project in Serbia, with infill soil sampling confirming broad anomalies at the Jelaca and Oglavak prospects.
The company completed 192 soil samples across the two prospects, defining core anomalies above 200 parts per million (ppm) copper (Cu) at both locations.
At Jelaca, the anomaly extends 900m by up to 400m, with assays reaching 862ppm Cu. The Oglavak target spans 600m by up to 400m, returning peak values of 1,614ppm Cu.
Rock chip sampling at Jelaca returned assays up to 3.21% Cu and 26 grams per tonne silver from altered and weathered copper mineralised basalt. The results expand the outcropping copper mineralised footprint at the prospect, which previously recorded rock chip assays up to 10.3% Cu.
“These latest assay results from the Priboj Project area provide further support for the [volcanogenic massive sulphide] VMS-style copper exploration model being tested and reinforce the potential of the broader licence area,” Executive Chairman Daniel Raihani says.
The Priboj Project comprises three exploration licences covering 195km2 in central-western Serbia. The project sits along a significant regional geological boundary separating oceanic crustal rocks from continental sedimentary rocks, with several third-party mineral deposits recorded along this boundary.
Middle Island notes no historical exploration has been recorded in the area prior to its recent programs. The company is testing the region for VMS-style copper deposits within an oceanic ophiolite sequence.
At the nearby Lunicki target, two infill soil sample lines recorded four assays above 200ppm Cu, with a maximum result of 663ppm Cu. Five samples on the easternmost line returned gold assays ranging from 7 to 13 parts per billion.
The company has designed an initial reverse circulation drilling program to test the Jelaca prospect, subject to land access approval.
Infill soil sampling is also proposed across the Jermovac exploration licence, where initial wide-spaced sampling returned individual results up to 5,054ppm Cu and rock chip samples up to 11.3% Cu.
Middle Island is awaiting assay results from additional exploration programs across its Serbian assets.
The company acquired its Serbian exploration portfolio in 2025, targeting gold and base metal deposits within the Western Tethyan Mineral Province.
Middle Island Resources is an Australian explorer focused on gold and base metal deposits in Serbia.
