Marmota (ASX:MEU) has expanded its stage three reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Greenewood gold discovery to 31,000m.
The company has completed 26,000m across 284 holes at the Gawler Craton Gold Project in South Australia, with the additional 5,000m primarily targeting the southern Mainwood zone. The expanded program is expected to complete around 17 September.
Marmota’s drilling program has grown from an original 20,000m across 320 planned holes, averaging a depth of 97m downhole. The program includes 105 holes in the Greenewood zone and 179 holes in the Mainwood zone, with potential to extend the mineralised gold strike to over 2km across both zones.
Chairman Colin Rose says the program has been yielding “some of the best gold results” in the Gawler Craton since the discovery of Challenger in 1995.
“Marmota commenced our maiden drill program at Greenewood just over 12 months ago,” Rose says.
“We have now completed over 50,000m of RC drilling at Greenewood in 13 months … easily setting a new record number of metres drilled by Marmota in one year.”
The program aims to expand the main Greenewood zone — which remains open in all directions — and target southern Mainwood extensions to identify ‘high-grade’ gold mineralisation.
Marmota notes Greenewood had seen only 7,000m of RC drilling prior to July 2025. Mainwood had seen approximately 3,700m across 53 holes since discovery, with no drilling undertaken since 2018.
The company says Greenewood lacks surface calcrete expression, meaning traditional regional calcrete sampling techniques — which were used to discover Challenger in 1995 — would have missed the deposit.
Marmota holds a 90% interest in Greenewood and Mainwood through its Golden Moon Joint Venture via subsidiary Half Moon. The deposits lie 35km northwest of the Aurora Tank gold deposit and 30km northeast of the Challenger Gold Mine.
A maiden Scoping Study for Gawler Gold commenced in November 2025, with the expanded drilling aimed at supporting an indicated resource.
Marmota is a mining explorer focused on gold, titanium, and uranium.
