Locksley gears up to drill test El Campo’s rare earth potential

With approvals in hand, Locksley Resources (ASX:LKY) is getting ready to follow up rock chip samples grading up to 12.1% total rare earth oxides (TREO) at the El Campo prospect in Southern California, US.

The approved drill program will include five holes for 775m and will follow up on the rock chip sampling that pinpointed an 800m long prospective zone, as well as testing vertical continuity and width of the mineralised feature.

Managing Director Steve Woodham says a field team and  drill rig will be mobilising to site as soon as possible.

At the North Block prospect, further work has begun on detailed mapping and rock chip sampling, using publicly available data and interpreted structural trends, after stream sediment samples returned values up to 1.44% TREO.

“Furthermore, the previous stream sediment and rock chip sampling in the North Block claim are indicative of the REE potential of the Mojave Project as a whole, such that the company has now increased its landholdings in this area by 5.7km2,” Woodham says.

Having pegged the additional 5.7km2 of claims to the northeast of the Mojave Project, Locksley has grown the total project area to 24.4km2.

The company says it is also planning to refocus the surface sampling effort on rock chip sampling and is currently evaluating strategies for a more detailed mapping and sampling program across the terrain.

The Mojave Project lies in the Mojave Desert in California, US. The project comprises the North, North East, and South blocks, as well as the El Campo prospect.

Locksley Resources is a mineral explorer focused on copper, gold, and base metals throughout Australia. The company is also exploring for rare earths in the US.
