Lincoln Minerals (ASX:LML) has announced the results of a review into the copper potential at the Southern Eyre Project in South Australia, identifying additional copper prospects and building upon historical drilling at Minbrie.
Historical drilling in the 1980s produced rock chip samples from an area of similar geological setting to Lincoln’s Minbrie Project, with grades up to 11.1% copper and 0.6% grams per tonne gold, and 9.65% copper and 0.1g/t gold.
CEO Chris Wilcox says that “by applying our learnings from Minbrie, Lincoln has identified historic high-grade copper and gold surface samples in a comparable geological setting to Minbrie within the Southern Eyre Project”.
“This strengthens the copper prospectivity of the Eyre Peninsula, while also demonstrating the potential for gold,” Wilcox says.
“These new targets present an exciting opportunity for Lincoln to expand its strategy of focusing on copper discovery in South Australia.”
Lincoln is currently focused on exploration at Minbrie, where the company controls a 20km corridor prospective for copper and base metals.
A recent review and assay of historic core identified new zones of mineralisation yet to be assayed. Multiple historic intercepts over a 7km strike confirm widespread copper mineralisation, particularly at the Eagle Ridge prospect.
Lincoln is continuing to target mapping and surface sampling at the Southern Eyre Project while also conducting wide-spaced aircore drilling at Minbrie, along a 17km strike.
The company will continue to re-log and re-assay all of the historic drill core from Minbrie to identify zones with copper and base metal mineralisation potential.
Once the re-logging and aircore programs are complete, Lincoln will then identify and rank the new targets.
Lincoln Minerals is focused on advancing copper and base metal projects in South Australia’s Gawler Craton region.
