Legend Mining kicks off 2021 field season with diamond drilling at Mawson prospect

Legend Mining Limited (ASX: LEG) announced that diamond drilling has commenced at the Mawson prospect within the Rockford project, Fraser Range Western Australia.

The company said that the first of the two diamond rigs has started drilling at Mawson and a second rig is scheduled next week. LEG said that regional EM surveying and Aircore drilling are due to commence later in April.

Diamond drilling program at Mawson

The company had recently completed the drill site preparation activities for the planned >10,000m diamond program at Mawson prospect.

Legend said that priority target areas for the initial diamond drill holes were identified and the first of two diamond rigs arrived on site at Mawson, with drilling underway. The company said that the second diamond rig is scheduled to arrive on site next week.

Water agreement a logistical milestone

The company reported that a water agreement was recently signed with the station owner, making it feasible to deploy multiple diamond rigs at Mawson.

Under the agreement, water is supplied to the Mawson tank farm which is then irrigated across the drilling grid via pipelines. LEG said that this is a significant logistical milestone for Legend as it mitigates the cost and downtime associated with water cartage from Kalgoorlie.

Camp established

The company said that in addition to the water agreement, a semi-permanent camp was also established at Mawson during February 2021 to facilitate the increase in drilling and associated activities.

Next steps

The company reported that regionally, innovative MLTEM and follow up FLTEM is scheduled to start across the highly ranked regional Rockford targets in April 2021.

LEG said that an aircore drilling programme is also scheduled to commence at the Crean Ni-Cu prospect once statutory approvals are granted.
