Iron Bear Resources (ASX:IBR) has appointed Simon Lill as Non-Executive Chairman effective 1 July 2026, as the company advances its flagship Iron Bear Project in Labrador Trough towards a Prefeasibility Study.
Lill previously served as Chairman of De Grey Mining from 2013 until its $6 billion acquisition by Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) in May 2025.
Under his leadership, the company transformed from a million-dollar market capitalisation junior explorer into an ASX 200 mineral development company.
During his 12-year tenure at De Grey, Lill oversaw the discovery and development of the Hemi gold deposit, which contains 11.2 million ounces of gold within a broader 13.5 million ounce resource, in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Managing Director Paul Berend says Lill’s strategic vision, industry reputation, and proven track record of value creation make him an ideal addition to the board as the company advances the Iron Bear project.
“We are delighted and privileged that Simon has agreed to join the board and become chairman of Iron Bear at this exciting stage of the company’s development,” Berend says.
Lill, who brings more than 35 years of strategic leadership, corporate development, and capital markets experience, says he is “excited” to join Iron Bear and work alongside its experienced team.
“In only a few years, the company has made remarkable progress on what is clearly a highly prospective project through a combination of technical innovation, disciplined execution, and a clear strategic focus,” Lill says.
“I look forward to contributing to the next phase of growth and helping unlock the full potential of the Iron Bear project for shareholders.”
Iron Bear notes that David Sanders will continue as Non-Executive Director after stepping down as Chairman.
The board also intends to seek shareholder approval for performance rights to existing directors at the next general meeting.
Located in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Iron Bear Project hosts a mineral resource of 13.6 billion tonnes at 30% iron, including 4.5 billion tonnes at 29.5% iron in the indicated category.
Iron Bear Resources is an emerging iron ore developer focused on developing its flagship project in the Labrador Trough, Canada. It also owns assets in New Zealand and Western Australia.
