Gorilla Gold Mines (ASX:GG8) has expanded a ‘high-grade’ footwall discovery at its Sovereign deposit to over 1km of strike through new drilling and geological reinterpretation.
Latest drilling at the Comet Vale Gold Project in Western Australia has returned 2.8m @ 31 grams per tonne gold (Au) from 379.1m in hole STEX226, located 600m north of the original discovery intercept.
CEO Charles Hughes says the discovery continues to deliver significant results.
“This is another exciting development at Sovereign, following on from the outstanding intercept of 9.3m @ 20.6g/t Au in STEX172 which heralded the discovery of a significant new high-grade footwall lode back in May,” Hughes notes.
The footwall system sits 40m into the footwall of the main lode at Sovereign and remains outside the existing 410,000 ounce mineral resource estimate @ 4.3g/t Au.
A review of historical underground drilling data has identified a previously unreported intercept of 0.6m @ 86.2g/t Au from 99.4m in hole CVUG008, located 400m along strike north of the original discovery.
Additional intercepts now linked to the footwall position include 4m @ 3.2g/t Au from 244m in STEX075, representing the southernmost intercept in the footwall lode.
The discovery sits at the boundary of a major stratigraphic change traceable across multiple kilometres of strike. Mineralisation occurs within quartz veins associated with pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-sphalerite-galena sulphide development.
“When these results are combined with several other intercepts that our geological team has now linked to the same footwall position, this is emerging as a major new target for high-grade resource growth at Comet Vale,” Hughes says.
The Comet Vale Project forms part of Gorilla Gold’s North Kalgoorlie Hub, which hosts current mineral resources of 1.2 million ounces @ 3.7g/t Au. Multiple rigs continue drilling at the hub and Vivien projects.
Gorilla Gold Mines is an Australian gold explorer advancing a portfolio of projects across Western Australia’s Goldfields, including the Mulwarrie and Yalgoo-Lang Well projects, alongside its Comet Vale and Vivien assets.
