As the US upscales efforts to stabilise mineral security and reduce reliance on foreign processing, Giant Mining (CSE:BFG) CEO David Greenway says the Regulatory Relief for Certain Stationary Sources to Promote American Mineral Security proclamation strengthens the copper chain.
“Friday’s decision makes one thing clear: American copper matters,” Greenway says.
“It’s a constructive step to strengthen America’s critical-mineral supply chains while upholding responsible environmental stewardship.”
The proclamation will extend compliance timelines for specific stationary sources, including copper, by two years.
This act intends to preserve copper processing capacity amid rising demand for domestic supply.
Copper is priced at US$5.14 per pound as of 29 October 2025, representing a 64.36% increase for this year to date, according to Trading Economics.

“We believe exploration and development go hand in hand with sustainability, and we fully support initiatives that strengthen America’s ability to secure essential metals like copper in an environmentally responsible way.”
Copper is used across a range of industries including electrical wiring, plumbing, and electronics, suitable for its electrical and thermal conductivity.
As reported by Mining.com.au last month, the US is removing the refined form of the base metal from its tariff list, which led to a selloff in futures of almost 20%.
If demand continues to follow, Deutsche Bank forecasts prices to jump over US$10,000 per tonne by 2026.
